People are asking me “waris why comedy? I thought you were the fastest athlete in 2012”
I think I need to let you know this and is a true story everyone who knew me wayback in school would testify.
I was raised by a single parent and looking at how a woman would raise 2 boys from an area like bubiashie in those days when every bad thing was done in there was not easy, then there was no helper and all we did to survive was to tell purewater in traffic and market centres as at the age of 14yrs.. mum would sometimes sell rice and stew in the hood ,that is when the purewater money accumulated and became big then we move to the next step of business ,where mum would cook 4 cups of rice for the start and as time went on we increased it, times people buy, other times they left it for us to eat our thing, due to lack of money there was nothing like toys for us, we buy books in bit and sometimes we missed exercises, while people covered their books with brown paper, mum goes to a neighbor for used graphic to be used to cover our books, the best I could do is to roam from printing press to another checking their waste bins if I can get brown paper, you suffer to get the books needed then next is you’re sacked for not paying fees, whiles people came to school with nice bags, we had our books in our tucked shirts, I remember I wore one shoe from class one to class three, as I go further mum removes some of the papers in the shoe that supported me, just so it fits me, I just realised why mum got me repeated for 2 academic terms just because she didn’t have money to buy me text books for the next class.
Mum would cry at night, day time and times when we are going for an occasion where she ever attended with our late dad, I cried too and I still cry anytime I remember this.
There were moments when mum owes the mini supermarket woman some money for buying some food stuffs and we all have to swerve her all the time , bit by bit we were growing , I remember when Mom had to do security job to raise money for me to enter Senior high.
Then I was also a store boy at MacMillan company that was how I loved reading, I entered senior high by divine selection, mum was Soo brave, but the truth is we only had admission fees and my boarding fees and just a first term fees so right after first term, I begun owing the school, but I was still in the school, I was sacked a couple of times, embarrassed a million times at the assembly grounds, those who know this know it, I can’t continue but all I can say I completed school owing over 1800cedis and amazingly I was the first to take my testimonial cos I worked as a spare parts dealer and a Maison to pay my arrears …
I WILL CONTINUE SOMEDAY SOON, BUT WHAT MADE ME A COMEDIAN IS WHEN I THINK OF WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH , I CANT BE TOO SERIOUS WITH LIFE AND THST IS HOW I COMBINE MY SENSE OF HUMOUR AND LAUGH ABOUT MY PAST.. SHARING THIS GLORY ABOUT HOW FAR GOD HAS BROUGHT ME IS A PRIVILEGE, I SHARED THIS EXPERIENCE JUST IN CASE YOU’RE GOING THROUGH A SIMILAR SITUATION, LEARN TO BELIEVE THAT NOTHING IS PERMANENT AND WHAT EVER YOURE GOING THROUGH IS A PROCESS, JUST RESPECT IT🙌🤞
