“For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.” Matthew 21:32.
This incident happened when the authority of Jesus was questioned by the chief priests and the elders in his time. As part of his answer to their question, Jesus told a parable, part of which is the passage of today.
Usually it seems like repentance has nothing to do with ‘great people’ in our society. However, from what Jesus said in the word of God today, we learn that repentance is a prerequisite for everyone, great or small, prior to our re-union with God. Living a righteous life is as important as turning from every evil way to God. In Jesus’ Time, just as in our time today, people like tax collectors and prostitutes were not regarded as anything.
Yet, they were the ones who turned from their wayward ways of life and believed in God. Therefore, whether great or marginalised in society the LORD calls everyone to repent from our ways that are not pleasing to him, and turn to God for a renewal of life. Remain blessed as we continue…
