Day 174. E & M Corner. Lessons on Repentance
“I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men. So he got up and went to his father.” Luke 15:19-20.
From where I left off yesterday, we learn that repentance becomes genuine when one comes to one’s senses. How do I see my current situation?
What do I hear people are saying about me, or the inner voice of God is telling me? Is life worth living from the way I taste it where I am right now, or I need to move on or return? Or perhaps I need God’s touch of love upon my soul…, and so forth.
True repentance involves recognising our unworthiness, and how worthy and welcoming our heavenly Father is. True repentance also calls for making the right decision and implementing that decision.
In the story, the young man did all these. Finally, true repentance means moving or turning from our current way of life that is ruining our state of human dignity, and turn to God for a renewal of life. Again, the reading reveals this to us.
