Hardly do you see a Ghanaian teenager make it into the top sides in Europe and not to talk of commanding a starting berth and rising to be the linchpin in that team. Such is the story of 18 year old teenage prodigy, Mohammed Kudus, who is making a name for himself in the Danish top division with highflyers FC Nordsjaelland.
The former Right to Dream Academy player, is now among the most sought after talents in Europe as scouts from top European sides circle around for the next big football star. His performances has already got Danish football fans tipping him as one of the frontrunners for the player of the season award.
Kudus joined FC Nordsjaelland from Right to Dream Academy in January 2018 together with team teammates, Ibrahim Sadiq and Gideon Mensah, all three at age 17. He got promoted to the first team squad in the summer of 2018 having starred for the reserve team in the first half of the year. His official debut came only 3 days after his 18th birthday, in a 2-0 defeat against fellow Danish giants Brondby IF, making him the 9th youngest debutant in FC Nordsjaelland’s 15 year history.
A midfield player with a sharp turn of pace, a tailored passing ability, a good dribbler and a powerful left foot, Kudus has quickly established himself as one of the key players of FC Nordsjaelland and the first names on his manager’s team sheet. He has won man of the match awards in games against top Danish sides like Esbjerg, FC Copenhagan and Brondby and the sight of seeing him glide and breeze past opponents with such swagger brings back fond memories of a Michael Essien or a Stephen Appiah in their prime.
He has excelled in his new role as a defensive playmaker having made 23 appearances and scored two goals and his deep runs has drawn comparisons to players like Yaya Toure and Paul Pogba. Kudus was part of Ghana’s U-17 World Cup stars in India two years ago and he represented Ghana at the Africa U-20 youth championship in Niger earlier this year. Only time is preventing him from getting a call up into the senior national team of Ghana, the black stars.
