Samuel Bazawule popularly known as Blitz the Ambassador – a Ghanaian filmmaker and visual artist who recently directed Beyoncé’s ‘Black Is King’ visual album, is set to direct a new film ‘The Color Purple’ for international broad-based entertainment company, Warner Bros.
The musical film, ‘The Color Purple’ will be produced by renowned American television and film producer, Oprah Winfrey, Scott Sanders, Quincy Jones and Steven Spielberg – all of whom were wowed by Blitz’s vibrant visual style on his 2018 directorial debut ‘The Burial of Kojo’ – a drama film that was written and directed by Blitz.
Oprah Winfrey in an interview expressed how they were “blown away by Blitz’s unique vision as a director and look forward to seeing how he brings the next evolution of this beloved story to life”.
Also, in a post on Twitter, Oprah commended Blitz for his amazing works. She says Blitz has “the perfect director’s brush for the next evolution of this beloved story.”
Blitz presently is a Senior TED Fellow and the founder of Africa Film Society, an organization focused on the preservation and distribution of classic African cinema.
