Akwaboah Jnr: The Nation’s Music Genius

This nation has seen the rise of great musicians. Those that produced timeless music which till date have the same impact as they had when they were released. Nowadays music released comes with an expiry date label on it. We hardly hear timeless music these days, mainly because there’s scarcity of very well talented song writers.

Artistes of today instead of being more bent on the next hit song to produce, should rather look at the fact that they make music for not just themselves. Leaving the youth these days with no other choice than to listen to music from European and American musicians, reason being that they [European and American Musicians] speak truth in their music, thus, talks about social, political and even religious issues. Even though many of the music from there is vague, majority of those that are released throws light on particular issues concerning human life.

Back here in Ghana, I believe there is one person who has the ability to write timeless music and that person is none other than Akwaboah Jnr, son of legendary highlife musician Kwadwo Akwaboah Snr. Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr simply known by his stage name as Akwaboah Jnr has been active in the music industry since the year 2007 and is currently singed into Sarkcess Music a record label owned by internationally acclaimed rapper, Sarkodie.

Akwaboah Jnr who is not only gifted with the voice of an angel but has the ability to write good music. He can be said to be the one with the Midas touch when it comes to song writing in Ghana. He wrote “Daa Ke Daa” for Becca and Ayeyi Ndwom for DSP Kofi Sarpong. Both songs won their respective artistes’ awards at the Ghana Music awards and making him [Akwaboah] winning the song writer of the year.

Akwaboah who is also a master keyboardist, having worked for several local also did amazingly on the international market by working for artistes like, Hugh Masekela and John Legend. The multitalented musician also produced and co-wrote Sarkodie’s fourth album “Mary”. He won the hearts of many when his hit single ”I do love you”, was released.

He is currently out with his new album, “Matters Of The Heart” on which he featured a number of talented to bring out some amazing timeless songs. We must not sleep on this gem like we do most of the time, we must celebrate him now that he is living. This is exactly why I want to celebrate the extraordinaire Akwaboah Jnr on my platform and I hope many of you would do same.
