GPL WEEK 6 PREVIEW : Top 4 Teams Clash, Hearts and Kotoko Renew Rivalry

A big weekend of football approaches starts today as the Ghana Premier League (GPL) enters matchweek 6 with some feisty, frosty and interesting encounters across the country.

West African Football Academy (WAFA) kick start match-day six at Sogakope as they continue their unbeaten run this season. They host Liberty Professionals this afternoon.

Legon Cities FC will play at 19:00 GMT on Friday as they set sights on recording their first victory in this year’s campaign against high flying Bechem United at the Accra Sports Stadium with rapper Medikal expected to perform tonight.

Berekum Chlesea, who are placed first on the league log and are unbeaten would host second-placed Aduana Stars, while Ashantigold SC who lie third on the league table travel to the Tarkwa to face Medeama who are positioned fourth.

Undoubtedly, the above teams have been the standout performers so far this season displaying some good football and are strong contenders for the title despite being early days yet.

On the hand, resurgent Accra Hearts of Oak who displayed a very good performance against Liberty Professionals with two late goals last week would renew their rivalry against Kumasi Asante Kotoko who also edged struggling Ebusua Dwarfs last Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium with also two late goals.

The ‘Super Clash’ would witness two of Ghana’s biggest clubs meet at the Accra Sports Stadium which is expected to be filled to the rafters come Sunday.

It’s the first Super Clash of the 2019/20 season and the two teams are ready to put in their best for the three points and also for the bragging rights.

Hearts of Oak have won two, drawn one and lost two after five games in the league this season. Asante Kotoko have won three games but have also lost two after five games this season.

Head to Head
Since 2006, the two teams have met 23 times in the league. Hearts have had the upper hand with 10 wins while Kotoko have won six(6). Seven (7) have ended in draws.

For only matches played in Accra since 2006, Kotoko have won five(5), Hearts have four(4) wins and two(2) have ended in draws.

Key player to watch for Hearts of oak – Emmanuel Nettey.

Key player to watch for Asante Kotoko SC – Justice Blay ‘Battle of midfield’.

The bottom half of the table would also witness some thrilling matches with Great Olympics seeking to record their second win of the season against Inter Allies, while Ebusua Dwarfs and King Faisal search for the first win of the season when they face Dreams and Elmina Sharks respectively.
