The Ghana Diaspora Celebration and Home Coming Summit 2019 (GDHS’ 19) took off last Tuesday, 3rd July, 2019 at the Accra International Conference Centre with a host of diginitries present including H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo, the President of the Republic of Ghana.
The four-day event which is happening under the auspices of the Office of the President through its Diaspora affairs directorate, seeks to recognize and celebrate the immense contributions to nation building by the Ghanaian Diaspora.
The event is not only highlighting past contributions but it will also focus on present contributions as well, whiles furthering the advocacy for political, economic, and all other systems and policies that would facilitate future contributions by the Ghanaian Diaspora.
In a welcome address by Mr. Akwasi Awua Ababio, Director,
Diaspora Affairs, Office of the President, the need for this summit was brought to the fore. “The homecoming summit is instituted as a biennial event to rally Ghanaians living abroad to dialogue, network and explore economic and investment opportunities in Ghana in furtherance of the President’s Agenda of Ghana beyond Aid”, he said in a speech.
Mr. Ababio further highlighted how his office has contributed to the needs of the Ghanaian Diaspora in the last two years. In thanking the President, he went on to elaborate on the Diaspora Engagement Policy which is still undergoing stakeholder engagement and consultancy.
The summit comes to a close on Saturday, 6th July, 2019.
