Stop hyping and fueling ‘beefs’ – Ghanaian/UK rapper to Ghanaian media

The concept of ‘beef’ which hitherto was alien to the Ghanaian music industry is one that in recent times has slowly but surely come to plague our beautiful musical scenery and its degeneration culminated in the brawl that erupted at the just ended VGMAs. With the battle for supremacy becoming more and more keener, some artistes resort to throwing shots at each other at the least chance whether in a song, on social media or even traditional media with some ending up in insults and the use of fowl language. Some recent high profile ‘beefs’ that come to mind is the one between Sarkodie and Manifest and the now disgraceful Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy beef.

With some influencial industry players supporting this somewhat unhealthy rivalry of ‘beefs’ and claiming it is good for the commercial aspect of the industry, others have strongly condemned it and the latest to join the condemnation bandwagon is UK rapper of Ghanaian descent Sway or Sway DaSafo.

Speaking with Kobbykyeinews during a visit to Ghana, the award winning rapper didn’t mince words and laid the blame on the Ghanaian media for hyping these ‘beefs’. “I think beef is never healthy and you have to understand that two people can’t beef each other without the feel of the fire and it’s up to you to the media to stop hyping it”, Sway disclosed.

In an advise to the media, Sway was of the view that instead of wasting time to fuel ‘beefs’, now is the time to help make more superstars out of the industry and push more people into the spotlight rather than trying to make a champion out of the very few top stars we have thereby encouraging unnecessary and an unhealthy rivalry called ‘beef’.
