Ghanaian musical artist and CEO of MadTime Entertainment, Kwaw Kese says Dancehall is going to “sleep” because the rap game in Ghana is back.
Kwaw Kese made reference to Sarkodie’s “Alpha” tape in addition with 2019 VGMA rapper of the year, Medikal as a evidences that shows the rap game in Ghana is back, hence the dancehall genre is gradually going to wane.
Speaking to Sammy Flex on Zylofon Fm on Monday, June 17 2019, Kwaw Kese revealed that most dancehall artistes usually base their popularity on beefs, and since the top acts in the genre have smoked peace, the genre is going to fade away.
He further explained that he is not undermining dancehall and that the genre is a big one, however, he believes this year specifically is for the rap game.
The “Dondo” hitmaker who’s set to release the remix of the song which features Medikal and Sarkodie said, “…most of these dancehall artistes, they base their popularity on beefs…Now that the beef has been squashed in the game there’s no hype for anybody, so people keep dropping songs and we don’t even hear it.”
“Dancehall is going to sleep, you know I like my dancehall people but rap is back, hiplife is back. Look, Sarkodie just dropped his EP and it’s all over. Medikal, best rapper…he’s all over…Kwaw Kese dropped “Dondo”, it’s all over… I’m not undermining dancehall, dancehall is a big genre but this year is our year. Rap has come back to stay”, he added.
