The acrimonious brawl that broke out at the VGMAs seems to have engulfed a lot of talking points on the night one of which was the crowning of Kuami Eugene as the King of contemporary highlife by the legendary Abrantie Amakye Dede.
This move has divided opinions in the aftermath of the event. With some musicians and pundits endorsing the move, others think Kuami Eugene has not done enough to warrant such honour and singer Nautyca has also expressed his displeasure about that crowning.
According to him, Kuami Eugene has not really taken highlife to that extent that he should be crowned the King of the genre. “We’re also doing highlife so if someone should reign for a year and he’s being crowned highlife? Why don’t we wait for a decade or something close to that? It is too quick and too soon” Nautyca said when he appeared on Showbiz Review on Hitz Fm. He added that, It didn’t take Amakye Dede just a year or two for him to earn the legendary status he enjoys today hence the decision to give Kuami Eugene that accolade was uncalled for.
