“Let Us Focus On Building Our Craft” – Jacinta Ocansey Advices After Impressive Performance at Seyilaw’s Comedy Show Fast and Funny: Blacker than Ever.

Jacinta Ocansey, a Ghanaian female stand up comedianknown professionally by the stage name Jacinta, made the entire nation of Ghana proud with her impressive performance at SeyiLaw’s comedy show, Fast and Funny: Blacker Than Ever.

The Ghanaian/Nigerian, or Ghagerian as she prefers to be called thrilled patrons to an evening of humorous tales and rib-cracking jokes. She was the girl on fire during her performance. The female comedienne went off hard from the onset and kept audience climaxing with each line she dropped. There was no dull moment with the her on stage.

Her performance was one to remember, even though the industry is dominated by men, Jacinta always shows her prowess and rubs shoulders with her male counterparts each time she mounts the stage with Steller routines.

In a conversation with the comedienne about the future of the Ghanaian comedy industry. she said the industry is still a crawling one and that we [Comedians and Comedy lovers] should not compare it to any other fully grown one. She believes the industry in Ghana is striving and Ghanaian comics should not make a habit of comparing themselves to others. She advised that they [Ghanaian Comics] should stay true to themselves and keep pushing their brand till they are fully recognized.

“Unfortunately, Ghana is a country where comedy is not even recognized as a part of the art. For example Ghana @ 60 celebrations, they recognized every form of the arts but comedy wasn’t part. This screams there is still lot of work to be done. We [comics] instead of comparing our craft with that of our Nigerian neighbours, we must focus of first building our craft. We must not be too bothered about the international market. If we can make our brands visible enough by being consistent the world would notice us.” She said

This is not the comedienne’s first trip to Nigeria to perform. She has performed at big Nigerian comedy shows which include The Diary of Mimicko and Shakara & The Gang, to mention a few.
