Comedy in the western world looks very attractive and more lucrative because event organizers and the entire creative industry knows and understand their relevance and hold them in high esteem but in Ghana it is totally a different game all together.
Some Ghanaian comedians are very good and really needs to be supported like it is done in countries like Nigeria and others but the situation here is very sad, comedians are always taken for granted and not respected.
Popular Ghanaian stand-up comedian and comic actor,Fostor Romanus has narrowed about 80 percent of the blames on Ghanaian event organizers.
Foster, believes that majority of the people in the Ghanaian creative industry expecially event organizers, do not really understand the performing arts, how expensive and intensive it is.
Moreover the comedian said that in Ghana, the service of comedians are last on the list of almost every event organizer because they don’t see the value of it like it is done in the western world where they arguably run all the shows.
He also emphasized that most Ghanaian event organizers don’t value them and that they hardly budget for their services .
Comedy is a noble profession like any other profession and for that reason needs to be treated and respected as such.
