Like we predicted some few days back, Kofi Kinaata’s “Things Fall Part” song has stoked a hot debate about who a good songwriter is and the songwriting abilities of most Ghanaian artistes.
And according to ace highlife singer Rex Omar, Ghana is not blessed with a lot of “original” songwriters. The head of GHAMRO speaking in an interview on Zylofon FM revealed that a lot of Ghanaian songwriters sample music from other countries, translate the lyrics into our local languages and then claim ownership of these songs.
He further revealed that music consumers in Ghana are not really exposed to a lot of songs due to a lack of variety on our airwaves which has lead to a lot of mediocre songs in the system.
Rex Omar listed Amandzeba, Rev, Yawson, Okyeame Kwame, Kofi Kinaata, Akwaboah, Ephraim Amu as some of the best songwriters he’s known.
