It’s about time someone cleared the air on this whole “play more Ghanaian songs” razzmatazz.
Lately, there’s been lots of online rants, with people arguing that Ghanaian DJs do not play Ghanaian songs as much as they do with the Nigerian songs. More hurting is those who play the Nigerian songs in restaurants, pubs and clubs including those who play on air.
Well, in bid to understand the ‘why’ of this dissatisfaction, Kobby Kyei invited one of the top Ghanaian DJs, DJ Ashmen, to tell the story from a DJ’s perspective.
During the discourse, DJ Ashmen confidently mentioned that Ghanaian DJs do play lots of Ghanaian tracks…which is even more than they do with the Nigerian songs. He indicated that the noise on this issue is quite unnecessary as he doesn’t see why Ghanaians fail to realize the efforts DJs put in to push their own.
According to him who also works at Zylofon FM, he attests that more Ghanaian songs are played on radio than any other non-Ghanaian song. Thus, Ghanaians should stop the noise and rather learn to appreciate their efforts.
