Ghanaian reggae/dancehall singer Stonebwoy seems to have waded into uncharted waters with a rhetoric yet important post on twitter which may dominate headlines in the coming days.
Stonebwoy tweeting at his over a million followers questioned who the biggest beneficiaries are when it comes to awards schemes, and his post seems to suggest award organizers stands to be the biggest winners at the end of the day.
He wrote, “Q:-Why do fans have to pay to vote on top of data already paid for to enable their favorite artiste win an award and also pay to attend the awards? And why are artistes obliged to use their own mileage to campaign for the awards on top.
Who actually gains, organizers or artistes?”
This highlights an age long system where event organizers leverages on the popularity of artistes and the love of their fans to promote their events and brands. It’s a topic that needs serious addressing and it’s good Stonebwoy has started it. Let see how this unfolds.
